Even Hotter!

Grandma Loyce had the oldest and the youngest today, and went to the big homeowners association pool at about 11 AM. They didn't return by about 12:30, so I saw the opportunity to disappear.

Yep I just slipped right out the door and headed for the car warehouse. I stopped and bought a cheese burger at Hardee's and got one for Chris too, since I knew he hadn't had any lunch either. I didn't have to worry about it getting cold in the car on my way to Belton.

We ate lunch and discussed the absolute lack of calls for cars, and the effect of the 100 degree heat, as people hang tight to their air conditioners. The warehouse was open on the North and the East with a large fan blowing in from the North. But it was still overbearing.

Chris had worked reconditioning some of the cars in the morning, but the temp had chased him into the office by about 11:30. Just couldn't take it anymore in the garage.

We looked thru the cars that were offered at the Adesa auction, and decided to go look at some of them. Driving to the place in the A/C was fine, but then we had to go out into the vast auction parking lot. In the sun! Oh My!

We walked back thru the building looking at the staged cars that were under the roof, but that is only the first 6 or so of each lane, so out the back door and into the sun we went. Several weeks ago I bought this straw Greg Norman style wide brimmed hat to wear in these lots, and I had it on. I look kinda like Tex Ritter, if your old enought to remember him. It helps, but not near enough on a really hot day.

So we went from car to car, and finally I hopped into a 08 Camry that only had 10K miles on it and had some gas. So we decided we needed a demo ride with the A/C on HIGH! We drove around all the cars in the various lanes, hopping out to look, and then back into the Camry.

We saw several that might be ok, but then went and parked the Camry back where it belonged. Then we made a B line back to the big building. They have swamp cooler fans in there, that evaporate water to blow some cooler air. Didn't make much difference, but at least we were out of the sun. I did see 100 degrees, on the dash thermometer of the Camry.

We went back to the Belton office and worked some more on the internet, but the A/C in there was not keeping up either. It creeped back up to 86 inside, running full tilt. So I went home. Enough allready.

Loyce tells me we are planning to go back to the lake next week, as it is the kids last days of summer before they have to go back to school. I guess they are going along with us and perhaps their parents will come on the weekend.

Tomorrow it is the first auction of the week, and it starts at 9:30. It will already be 90, and only get hotter as it progresses. Sounds like sooome fun! LOL

Hot, Hot,Hot!

And we logged another hot day here in KC. Not fit for man nor beast outside. We got to 98 again today, but I refrained from taking a picture of the thermometer today. You'll have to take my word for it.

I saw that Oklahoma City seemed to be the center of the hot spot here in the Midwest. They were reporting 102 when I looked at about 4 PM. Man that's too hot. The Rio Grande Valley had 96 which is cooler than all of the Midwest. But they were over 100 last week, so they need the break.

All in all I stayed inside and worked on the computer, and odd jobs all day. No big charcoal grill projects, but I did use the cleaning hose on the little pool in the back yard, sucking out the bugs on the bottom. Even got hot doing that little chore.

So nothing happening of interest at our house today. Maybe the heat will break tomorrow, but the forecast is for another high 90's day. Its still a lot better than the below freezing stuff from last winter.

Saturday BarBeCue!

Drunk Butt Chicken

Hey its not over 100 outside, so its not too hot to start a fire!

Coming out of the air conditioning really fogs over the camera, but the fire starter is plugged in and the charcoal is beginning to glow. The awning from the table is making some shade, but it still feels like I could cook without the fire. Maybe jump in the kids pool and forget the whole thing.

I went over to Lowes and got the right can stands for four dollars each. They explain this process. But I'm male, so I didn't read it.

Fill the cans with skunky beer, something that been in the fridge for a year or so, and some apple juice. About two thirds full.

Oil up the chicken, with olive oil and rub them with barbecue spice. Inside and out. As much as you can get to stick. Then stand them up on the can.

After the fire is going good, spread it out around the outside. Place the aluminum pan under the birds to catch the drippings, and they are ready to cook.

After about an hour, look out and see if it is still hot outside. Muster the courage and go tend the fire. Add more briquettes to the fire after you scrape it back to a smaller pile, on each side.

Watch the heat come back up. It eventually made it back to two fifty.

After another hour, not counting the time you had the lid off, your ready to serve. These guys gushed juice when we cut into them. We ate most of one tonight, and saved the other for salads tomorrow.

About that name, Drunk Butt Chicken. It is all over the internet, under that name, but I found one place that called them "Dancing Chickens." Do theses two look as if they are dancing?

Well maybe if you are stretching your imagination a bunch.

I didn't take pictures of the eatin part, cause you'll have to imagine that too! LOL!

Grand Daughter time!

Now how did I get my self into this trouble? I re read yesterday's blog, and somehow I made it sound like I favored the youngest grand child. Thats not what I meant at all. The youngest is here about half of the time, so it is much more routine to have her along.

But today we have the three year old. All day, and she is going to stay the night too. She is such a delight! She never is quiet, unless she is asleep. She sings and is happy, happy. She knows her alphabet and numbers. If you write them on a piece of paper she can tell you what you wrote. Not words of course but the letters.

I'm sure she will do very well, once she goes to school. But then I am grandpa, and quite biased.

She and grandma Loyce went swimming in the big pool, for over two hours right thru lunch. And then to Donalds as she calls it. Had her hamburger fix. So tonight we went to the Bandana's BarBeCue again. She had a grilled cheese. And apple sauce.

They make their apple sauce like my grandma did with big chunks of apple remaining, and not near as much sugar. So the kids do not like it much, since it isn't like what comes out of the jar. She struggles with eating it, but it is much better for her.

Once we got home, it was a big ice cream cone, with chocolate marshmellow in it. No wonder the kids like grandma so much. She will have to go to bed here after a while, and that is when she will realize that mommy and daddy won't be here until tomorrow.

This is when we have had some, I miss my mommy time, on previous overnights. So we will see how tonight goes.

I declared that today, was a day away from the car warehouse. I didn't go anywhere near the place. I read my mail, and worked on the computer most of the day. The yard was mowed yesterday, and I went to the grocery store last night, so today we relax. Aah!

Never did take a nap or anything like that, but I can get lost on the internet for hours on end. There is so much to learn, and it is all available right here. Then there are all the blogs, and the barbecue sites, and the motor home sites.

Bingo, day shot! But a good day playing with the grand daughter and eating all the stuff I shouldn't.
