As father's day winds down tonight, I was trying to remember what this week has been all about.... Let's see, I was eating that tenderloin in the rain on Tuesday, and came back home in Al's car...
Then on Wednesday he called me early in the Morning wanting to go riding again.... To a town called Circleville 40 miles north of Topeka.... That meant it was 105 miles out there........... ............. ........... I passed.. Al wasn't too happy about it...
So he rounded up some of the other guys and went without me.. They had some nice pictures, but the town was really a wide spot in the road... But its about the ride and not the destination.... But I had ridden 4 times in the last week, and just needed a break...
And our yard was up around our knees... And son Ben had just returned home from his three week holiday, so I did his that day as well... I used the John Deere riding tractor, so don't worry about feeling sorry for me... But when you ride on it for several hours, even it becomes work.... That was the only sunny day too...
So on Thursday it rained and kept me inside where I worked on bills and paper work for most of the morning... And then the afternoon had me out in the garage cleaning out Loyce's CRV Honda....
I have argued with myself about selling it... Didn't want to go thru the grief of having to list it and sell it to some person.. Didn't want to deal with the financing and worry of receiving good funds...
So on Friday, I took the car back to the Honda dealer after it was spiffed up all around... It took about a half an hour while the sales manager took the car up to the general manager and they shot me a low ball price... Then it took another half hour while I argued them up another thousand..... But in the end the deal was for a strong wholesale price, and I tossed him the keys...
They had one of the salesmen drive me home in a newer car and just like that it was over.... But you sit here and wonder if you did the right thing..... But hey, she's gone so I have to move on.... Besides if she could come back, I would buy her the best car possible...
I went to one of the grand daughter's soft ball games on Friday night just to keep myself occupied and not over stress about it..
Then today we had a big father's day brunch after church at Ben's home... I was proud of his (my) mowing job on his yard, but it is long again as it has rained three times since Wednesday... He teased me that I shouldn't worry about it since he had this service with a white Jeep and a John Deere in a trailer.... And that they would be by this week.... Uh, that would be me...... Ya right! Good try..
We had had Ham Balls and Twice baked potatoes for the brunch, and Melissa brought a barbecued shrimp dish on cheesy grits mixed with polenta.. This was quite good as well and I took seconds of all of it...... I haven't eaten much for the rest of the day.....
We sat out in Ben's back yard under the trees on his patio... He has these massive knock out roses that surround the seating area.... They are over six feet high with flowers all over them.... Somehow the afternoon just drifted away with story after story....
The grand girls were inside playing house... My 13 year old grandson is starting to hang out with the older folks as he is transitioning to a young man..... Time marches on.....
So happy father's day to all of my readers.... !!

Party Time! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Every time I see a Honda CRV I think of my sis! Proud of you for getting up the courage to sell her car. I felt very sad to see Dad's Cadillac leave the drive way for Chicago. An era now gone. Life does go on with or with out us. You did the right thing. Glad to read that you had a nice fathers day with your kids. Happy Fathers Day a day later!
ReplyDeleteAll those firsts are hard aren't they! Our son just had the first wedding anniversary without his wife and he struggled. Our thoughts are with you Rod.
ReplyDeleteThink we could get that white Jeep guy up here at Dogpound North. I know the feeling, although we have a couple of riding mowers it takes about 5-6 hours to cut all our grass. Let me tell you when the riding mowers are out of commission the lawn is a lot smaller and the horse pastures grow quickly. Sounds like you had a great fathers day with the family.
ReplyDeleteJanna said it so well, all those first are hard. Sure glad the kids were there to talk away the day with you. Seconds on Father's Day are a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone one keeps saying the firsts are the hardest. Cleaning out the clothes closets, giving away or selling jewelry, selling a car but you never loose the memories. Time does not heal the emptiness but it just becomes so much more of the norm that the pain goes away
ReplyDeleteYou might even start to considering downsizing the number of properties that you presently own causing less headaches and costing less for upkeep and insurances giving you the ability for longer range travels.
If you are looking for something to do you can always help a friend or one of the kids but at your own pace.
Even now 17 years later both Kathy and I often talk about the memories of our late spouses.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Glad you had a happy Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteIt's extremely hard to let go of things that belonged to a loved one but I do admire your courage in doing what needs to be done.
ReplyDeleteYou had an extremely busy week and I'm glad it ended up with good food and your great family!
Rod, I am a bit late with Fathers' Day wishes ...... Glad you made it at the car dealership .... Tough to handle the jobs and details left in your charge......hey, as you said, it is the thought that matters, if Loyce was here she could pick out whatever her heart desired.....keep thinking the good thoughts, Rod, you are such a trooper !!!!
