OK, just for the record, this is how Home Depot does their appliance business and delivery here in the Southwest....
Individual stores do not have inventories of appliances other than the ones that you see on display.. They are kept in a central warehouse, and in this case it is over in California somewhere...
Once the product is sold, a worker picks out your appliance and ships it to a local installer company in the area where you live.. That group of people receives the appliance from the shipping company and warehouses it until your appointed date of delivery..
They then call and give you a 4 hour window of time that they will be coming. Then call again a half hour before they arrive... Of course they don't mind a bit that you are the ones inconvenienced by the fact that they will be there when they get there.... Now days most installers are like this...
This is how the Home Depot carpet layers worked when they put down the carpet in our KC basement remodel last year as well. The carpet was shipped into the installers... The store is nothing more that a sales office...
Oh, I am remiss in wishing my Canadian Readers...
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!
I THINK WE HAVE ALL FALLEN INTO THAT ONE BEFORE

Thanks Rod, and I guess the "just in time" model of retailing is how they keep the prices down so us cheapskates don't blow a gasket.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rod!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Canada Day wishes, Rod. The process you described is pretty much exactly how our GE dishwasher bought at Home Depot here in Canada was handled. To their credit, when we bought it, they gave us a delivery date and the shipping company confirmed it by telephone a few days before the due date and they even arrived right within the 2 hour window we were told about.
ReplyDeleteThe Home Depot sales guy told me it was something to do with damage to the units and the OEM's were tired of having to foot the bill for so many units that were dinged up somewhere between Home Depot and the buyer. Who knows. I personally think it's an inventory savings issue myself - like JB said.
Well darn! And here I thought having someone else help you out was a worthwhile suggestion. Hope the time passes smoothly.

Guess us poorer folks out in the Arizona sticks are just gonna have to get used to dragging home some old used furniture ourselves. Gonna have to see if we can rent us a dusty old mule to pack things on too. Kinda looking forward to doing all that in the Fall. But, in all seriousness, I will have to find a utility trailer to haul stuff in. Luckily we already have fridge & stove but a clothes washer is a definate must. We have trees to hang clothes on to dry:)) Good for you in surviving that major heavy duty shopping spree. Definitely not an easy feat for some of us fellers......
