Whompin up a fix!!

Once we were down to the dock this morning, we decided to tackle that leaking hose....  By now it wasn't just leaking, it was blowing out full force...

We thought about some tape over the hole, but that wasn't going to stay on there in the water...  And the hose was covered in years of algae...

I jumped on the scooter and headed for our new Menards store in town....  The traffic that was leaving for home was almost overwhelming....

At the lumberyard, I stopped in the irrigation department to see what kind of plumbing parts I could whomp together.....  That is a tech term isn't it...?   As in whomp somthin up...

So I managed to find a hose mender connector for 1 inch plastic pipe... But the hose on the lift is rubber and only 7/8ths...  Never mind we'll make something work......  And with a few clamps, I was out the door headed for home..

We managed to cut the hose off and the bad spot out, by tossing about 6 inches away...   Ben and Caden took turns holding their hand over the hose that went to the lift tank so as not to let out the air holding it up....

I managed to get the mender hammered into the blower end of the hose about an inch and a clamp on it...    We then pushed and pushed on the other end setting it about the same amount into that piece of hose...  With a second clamp twisted as tight as we could make it, without breaking things, we called it mended...

The plastic barb mender would have been a fairly good fix had it been the right size and inserted completely into the hoses...  But as it is, it will flex the plastic a lot with the wave action of the surface of the water....  This is not a long term repair........

But at least that let us come back home tonight feeling somewhat secure that the lift will stay up while we are waiting for the repair people...

I'll have to call them from here in KC tomorrow, and see what the plan is....  A couple of new hoses might be a welcome solution...

  1. I was pretty certain a)you wouldn't leave it alone and b)you'd find some kind of temporary fix.

Congrats on both counts. Hope that holds until a permanent fix can be installed. Good thinking!
