Live and Let live...

We have a boat lift here at the Lake that lifts the pontoon out of the water so it won't get all scummy from the lake...  We've had it forever and it has had several boats that have lived on its rails...

It is two steel tanks that are filled with air from a vacuum style pump on the dock...  The air goes to the tanks thru some rubber radiator style hoses...  Over the years these hoses have rubbed upon each other in the wash of the wave action chafing themselves...

So in the rough water activity of this holiday week end, one of them has ruptured...  Ssssssss..... bubble, bubble...ssssssss......  This makes one side of the pontoon descend into the lake while the other side stays up....

A phone call to the lift repair fellow resulted in a phone call of despair....  You want it fixed this month??

They aren't even open on the week end....  Call back on Monday.....  So we are not too sure what will take place as far as packing up an leaving from our holiday....

If I could get the parts, perhaps I could repair it myself, but I have never liked messing with the lifts as they are way too heavy and can get away from you in a heart beat...

Taking off the hoses, means they begin to sink, so you had better be ready to put another one on or its all over....

Other than sitting here and wondering what to do next... we have been swimming with the kids and have watched more fireworks...  Missouri is a legal fireworks state...  And  by fireworks we mean big mortar type shells like the professional folks use..

Our immediate neighbor put on a show from his dock tonight....  Dad spent the bucks, and the 20 something son did the honors with the cigarette lighter....  At least when its over the water, sparks won't set as many things on fire...

We just sat back and enjoyed the show right in front of our house without any cost or worry of burning one of our family members....

Most of the folks that reside here in Missouri have been brought up with these pyrotechnics being available, and are more skilled in their use..  Even then some folks manage to hurt themselves every year...  But Missouri is a live and let live kind of a place....

  1. Why do things always have to break on a week-end. Sure hope the guy isn't too busy to come out and fix it for you NOW. I hate those big mortar type and our neighbor had lots and lots of those.

  2. It's always something isn't it? Here at our house, the latest problem is the coffee maker all of a sudden is acting up. Drives a person nuts - and, to the poor house!

Hope you manage to get that pump looked at and fixed. In the meantime, sitting on the deck, enjoying the weather, and looking at it is as good a day as any.

  3. Michigan allowed those mortar type fireworks a few years ago. We are still having problems accepting the noise from the blasts. It's amazing that so far, no one has blown off their hands! Two years now and no bad reports in the news papers thank God.
